This has got to be somewhere at the top of my list of pet peeves.
Imagine you come across $20 somehow and you just HAVE to spend it on some nice wholesome visual entertainment. You walk on over to the local video merchant to check out their selection. Right away you find the perfect movie. You obviously have many friends with great tastes in movies and they all highly recommend this particular title. Excited, you purchase it and bring it home, admiring it the whole way. Then it comes time to take off the shrink wrap and actually watch the film.
But wait! What is this? Security tape? Carefully you start to peel it off, only to find that the adhesive used on the security tape is entirely too strong, and does not cleanly separate from the DVD casing. Now your newest purchase is covered in this ugly, annoying, sticky residue…. **expletive**
I decided to go through my DVDs and find out which ones have had this problem. Here they are along with their distributors.
Requiem for a Dream - Artisan
Reservoir Dogs - Artisan
Mr and Mrs Smith - Fox
Idiocracy - Fox
Eternal Sunshine - Focus Features
Fargo - MGM
I do have other Artisan and Fox DVDs that are not plagued by this problem so I’m inclined to believe that it may not be the distributors fault directly. They really should have better quality control over their products than that though.
If you’re pissed when you get a DVD that has that terrible security tape adhesive holler.
